Thatcher impact in Africa

The Rt Hon member for Finchley, Margaret Thatcher (49), appears to be having some success in her campaign to reduce the interventionist supplies from the Eastern Bloc to FAPLA and MPLA forces in Angola.

Your correspondent in Luanda, Dominic Brian Trilby (34), has heard that both the Bulgarians and Chinese diverted freighters away from the country in September.  This has been supported by Mr Trilby observing that while the Bulgarian and Chinese representatives at last night's ambassadorial gathering in Luanda greeted each other warmly, ice formed on their host's upper lips.

It is rumoured that the words "fine words butter no parsnips" were spoken in Portuguese, although the literal translation into Bulgarian may have presented some difficulties.

The presence of a plentiful supply of Angolan telegram forms in the bags of those concerned would certainly have been deemed a sensible precaution against unnecessary pain.

MPLA CABFOR - Order 227

And the time for retreating is over.  NOT ONE STEP BACK! That must now be our watchword.

Can we take the blows of the enemy and push them back to the East?  Yes, because our international Comrades are sending us ever more aircraft, tanks, artillery and missiles.

Is there something we lack?  We lack order and discipline, that is our main shortcoming.  We must establish the strictest order and iron discipline in our army if we want to defend our Motherland.  Panickers and cowards will be eliminated on the spot.  Commanders of companies and battalions will be considered traitors to the Motherland if they retreat.

Comrade Agostinho Neto

Congratulations to the brave defenders of the communist ideals in Amriz, against mercenaries, financed by the CIA and illegally supported by Zaire, who attempted to take over the town and its associated port.   Your intrepid man in the field Comrade Pavel Tarasov can confirm that the courageous airmen from Luanda, in their awesome MIG -17’s helped their boys on the ground by destroying the pathetic FNLA attempts to bomb the town into submission.

How desperate are the capitalists as yesterday they had their lacky Pope Paul VI declare a US citizen, Mother Elizabeth Ann Bayley Seton a saint, this will not confuse the people of Angola who will not be fooled by attempts  to claim that Christians should support their actions to continue to enslave the people of the country.

Fall of Pereira de Eca

Before it is even possible to report the fall of Benguela,  the glorious heroes of Mocamedes advance to liberate the border with South West Africa!

Only the briefest pause can be allowed to see whether the apartheid regime of the Afrikaans has the courage to embrace apostasy before international socialism pushes on to Capetown by force of arms!

Reports today confirm that the coast of Angola is now free and socialist from the Namibian border to Ambriz.  The last few revanchist dogs in Ambrizete will soon be back in Zaire and the Atlantic Ocean free from the taint of the Great Satan!

The Rt Hon member for Finchley Margaret Thatcher (49), demanded that the Royal Navy increase its commitment to policing the waters off Angola after at least five Russian freighters have been reported as landing equipment in Luanda in late August that was declared as agricultural equipment.  The Hon lady commented that witnesses had seen artillery, armored cars and aircraft being unloaded from the Russian ships and these were clearly not for use other than on the fields of conflict.

The Minister for Defense Rt Hon member for Barnsley, Roy Mason (51), said
Ambassador Lunkov of the Soviet Union had assured him that there was no military equipment in the humanitarian support that his comrades were supplying to the sadly starving oppressed people of Angola and yet again the Hon Lady for Finchley was seeing “reds in the bed” when the truth was clearly a positive action by a fellow socialist government.

The editor has been overwhelmed by the demand of the people of Angola to register their deepest thanks for August's expression of solidarity by the People of China.  Following on from July's assurance by the People of Bulgaria that the anti-imperialist struggle remains close to their hearts, the international expression of socialist sympathy grows.  The western fascists mere military hardware cannot begin to compensate for such expressions of ideological purity and support.

The Gleaner notes the declaration by the mercenary South African captain of English cricket, Tony Greig, that: "If they get on top, these MPLA fellas, they are magnificent Guerillas, but if they are down they grovel - and UNITA, with the help of the FNLA, will make them grovel.".

A long, hot, bumpy summer is anticipated.

Johannesberg Journal 29 August 1975

The FNLA army has been fighting Communist rebels in the central port of Benguela after a suicide bomber attempted to attack an army checkpoint.

The bomber was killed before he could detonate his bomb on Tuesday evening. This was followed by militant attempts to infiltrate the city.

The army, possibly backed by UNITA air power, then moved against the Communists.

"The fighting is heavy and it is ongoing," FNLA army Capt Modibo Naman Traore told the Reuters news agency, adding that the army was in the process of "encircling" the militants.

At least one FNLA soldier and two civilians were wounded in Tuesday's fighting according to the city's mayor.

But the number of casualties following Wednesday's fighting remains unknown. At least one Russian made armoured car with FAPLA markings could be seen burning in the nothern outskirts of the city on Thursday.

The situation in Benguela remains tense, reports the Journal’s roving correspondent Roderick Sham from Nova Lisboa.

Last week Rick McCosker was set to make a maiden Test century against England until the “Free George Davis” vandals sabotaged the wicket.  This week the FNLA will be just as surprised with the loss of the strategically important costal town of Nova Redondo to a rag tag column of FAPLA guerillas who appeared from nowhere, perhaps with the Cuban military in the role of the “Free George Davis” vandals.

The Australians have the forth Test at the Oval to seek their revenge, will the FNLA be able to find solace in finally taking Cabinda ?

Havana Herald Sunday 24th August 1975

The editor notes with amusement the baseless claims of the American poodle concerning aircraft losses in the recent struggle.  FAPLA aircraft were not even involved in the fighting, and the most charitable explanation that he can find is that our marvelous new Cuban anti-aircraft missiles so confused the fascist pilots that they did not know what they were seeing - certainly they saw nothing of the fight as they flew for safety!  As more of these invincible weapons are unloaded by our East German friends, victory is assured.

Here in Cabinda the streets are deserted apart from units of  MPLA and numerous Soviet “advisers”.

This month the allegedly CIA backed FNLA have advanced from Zaire to the outskirts of the city annihilating MPLA forces in two major battles on the way.

East German freighters can be seen offshore but the port infrastructure will not allow the easy landing of the kind of equipment we believe has been arriving in Luanda from Cuban supporters to FAPLA.

The fall of Cabinda must be likely given the lack of defenses and what has appeared chaotic organization over the last month, although senior contacts in MPLA suggest the army will stand firm now they are fighting in their own suburbs against the imperialist backed aggressors.

The success of FNLA units here is dramatically different to that of the FNLA units north of Luanda on the coast and we seek clarification on who is leading the attack on Cabinda reports Colin Pierre.

Comrades I am lucky to be able to get this story to you as last Friday while on vacation in south Zaire with two fellow birdwatchers my travelling companions were arrested by Zairian police.  The trumped up charges of spying within the FLEC area are pathetic and I have given full details to the Cuban authorities to ensure my friends are freed as soon as possible.  These fascist bully police are acting clearly on the behalf of the militarily incompetent looser of the great Vietnamese struggle – America.

Fortunately I was engaged in a theological discussion with a young student, Candice Adongo and was therefore able to evade also being arrested - Samuél Castillo “Our man from Havana”.

Nova Lisboa has been under heavily armed mercenary control for the last week according to reports that have reached the free press here in the Socialist Republic of Moçâmedes.

There have been significant arrivals at the airbase outside Nova Lisboa from the bigoted fascist bastions to the south including a knowledgeable observer quoted, “ one Piper Aztec, one each of Cessna 172, Cessna 180 and Cessna 310, one Rockwell Turbocommander, one Mooney, three F.27s, and one Alouette II have all landed in the last week and have been painted flat green with UNITA markings”.

In addition, as we go to press we have heard that C-130s and DC-4s of the South African Air Force are believed to have been regular visitors to the airbase.

To combat this unwarranted aggression and interference in the democratic process in Angola it is good to know that the ex -Portuguese Air Force 2ª Região Aérea airbase outside Luanda has spontaneously joined the FAPLA freedom fighters in their successful struggle against the CIA backed FNLA.

Although it was understood that MPLA had not been successful in their control of the countryside to the east of Angola, we have subsequently heard that the strategy they used was effective.  This is supported by the news that Agostinho Neto, a senior member within the Soviet sponsored terrorist army in Angola, MPLA was not executed as reported last week but is apparently in robust health and leading rallies in Malanje.

In addition, it has been reported that significant activity has been observed in UNITA controlled centers in the south west rather than as expected in the east.  This may perhaps be to attempt to gain control of the pro-communist strategically important town of Moçâmedes.

 Errata –
Last week we reported the death of Agostinho Neto, we note that this was a case of mistaken identity and we are please to confirm that Senhor Neto (52)  is alive and well.

Citizen Agorki Neto of Sevastapol, who was working for the People’s Co-operative Land Bank, sadly died when a heavy goods lorry while traveling between Teixeira de Sousa and Luso crushed his jeep.  An eyewitness said, “ it was a tragic accident, he did not stand a chance as the lorry driver’s brakes failed going downhill and ran straight over his jeep.  The only luck was that the impact stopped the lorry and saved both the driver and its cargo of agricultural machinery”

“Our Man in Havana reports that the senior echelon of the leadership of FAPLA has been retired following the insufficiently revolutionary "thrust" north in July.

Greater enthusiasm for the great cause is expected in August following the appointment of Samuel R B o "Navigador" to direct command.”

Wednesday 6 March 2013

London Times – Thursday July 24th 1975

It has been reported that Agostinho Neto, a senior member within the Soviet sponsored terrorist army in Angola, MPLA, has been executed due to differences over military strategy in the recent turmoil in Angola.  He was an advocate of defending regional centers to restrict the mobility of UNITA.

The action may have been taken due to the recent successes by the Cuban backed FAPLA on the western coast of Angola, who have used a single very strong military force to engage with the western  sponsored FNLA and now are believed to control all major towns between Luanda and the Zaire border.

Some commentators have however attributed the FAPLA success more to the bad military leadership within the FNLA.
